Insurance Coverage for UD Employees

Policy

1. Insurance Coverage

All University of Dubai (UD) employees are covered by the University’s Group Health Insurance Plan (GHIP) in addition to the Group Life Insurance Plan.

UD employees are entitled to enroll their spouse(s) and children in the GHIP, subject to the following conditions:

  1. Faculty members of all ranks, administrative Managers and Assistant Managers are eligible to enroll their spouse(s) and all children under the age of 18. (Unless the employee will cover the children and bear the cost).

  2. Non-managerial staff members can only enroll their spouse(s) and up to two children under the age of 18. (Unless the employee will cover the children and bear the cost).

  3. The spouse(s) and children of UD employees must be under the visa sponsorship (residency) of the UD employee. Exceptions are allowed for the spouse(s) and children if their UAE residency is issued by another Emirate and if the spouse(s) and children are not covered by another private health insurance policy. In such cases, the UD employee must sign a declaration in this regard at the beginning of the insurance cycle. The HRD may also request a formal letter from the spouse's employer stating this fact.

  4. Employees who are on sponsored project-based contracts must follow the guidelines outlined by their sponsor as this agreement supersedes UD’s contract.

It is the obligation of the employee to inform the HRD of any duplication of health benefits received. If the employee falsifies this information or fails to inform the HRD, he/she will have to pay retroactively all related amounts, and the employee may be subject to disciplinary action.

  • The UD GHIP is optional for Emirati employees. They are eligible to join even if they are covered by a government-funded health insurance program. However, their spouse(s) and children may be enrolled only if they are not covered by another private insurance policy.

The Human Resource Department will assist all new joiners in enrolling in the plans and will be available to address any related questions.
