Part Time Faculty Hiring Policy

Policy 

  1. Recruitment Process:

    1.1 Needs Assessment:

  1. College/ Dean/ Director will assess the need for part-time faculty members based on course demands, teaching load, enrollment numbers, and  college/school objectives.

  2. A justification for the recruitment of part-time faculty must be documented and approved by the Finance and HR Manager.

 

   1.2 Job Description and Posting:

  1. A detailed job description will be developed, outlining the qualifications, experience, and responsibilities required for the position.

  2. The job description will be reviewed and approved by the HR department before posting.

  3. Job postings may be advertised through various channels, including UD’s website, academic job boards, and relevant professional networks to ensure a diverse and qualified applicant pool.

  4. It is strongly recommended that Part Time faculty members hold a PhD and be employed by other universities within the UAE.

 

   1.3 Application Process:

  1. Interested candidates will submit a complete application package, including a cover letter, CV, references, and any other required documents (e.g., teaching philosophy, sample syllabus).

  2.  The application deadline will be clearly stated in the job posting, and late applications will not be considered unless under exceptional circumstances.

 

2. Selection Process:

  2.1  Initial Screening:

  1. The college/school, in collaboration with the HR department, will conduct an initial screening of applications to ensure candidates meet the minimum qualifications.

  2. A shortlist of candidates will be prepared based on the initial screening.

             2.2  Interview Process:

  1. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with a selection committee composed of faculty members from the relevant college/school, the department head, and a representative from HR.

  2. The interview will assess the candidate’s teaching abilities, subject matter expertise, and alignment with the institution's values and culture.

  3. Candidates may be asked to deliver a teaching demonstration or provide examples of previous teaching materials.

 

     2.3 Evaluation and Decision-Making:

  1. The selection committee at the college/school level will evaluate candidates based on predefined criteria, including academic qualifications, teaching experience, professional experience, and references.

  2. The committee will discuss each candidate's strengths and weaknesses and reach a consensus on the preferred candidate(s) with the HR department.

  3. The final decision will be documented, and the selected candidate(s) will be recommended for hiring.

 

3. Offer of Employment:

  1. The HR department will prepare an official offer letter outlining the terms of employment, including compensation, teaching load, and any other relevant conditions.

  2. The offer will be contingent upon the successful completion of background checks and verification of credentials.

 

 

         4. Onboarding:

  1. Once the offer is accepted, the part-time faculty member will be provided with an onboarding package, including necessary institutional policies, teaching resources, and information on administrative procedures.

  2. The department will assign a mentor to support the new faculty member during their initial period of employment.
