Competition Award Policy

Policy 

When a faculty or staff member wins prize money from an external competition, and the competition is related to their role at the University of Dubai or involves the use of university resources, the following sharing arrangement will apply:

  1. The University of Dubai will retain 20% of the prize money as an institutional share.

  2. The remaining 80% of the prize money will be awarded to the faculty or staff member.

  3. Prior to determining the net prize money to be shared, the cost of extra university resources invested in the competition will be deducted from the total prize money won. The university extra resources' value will be calculated in consultation with the faculty or staff member and relevant university departments or offices.

 

1. Procedures

  1. Faculty or staff members are responsible for informing the Director of Research about their participation in external competitions and the potential for winning prize money.

  2. Upon winning prize money, the faculty or staff member must report the details of the award to the university Research Affairs Office and provide any necessary documentation.

  3.  UD will work in collaboration with the faculty or staff member to calculate the cost of extra university resources invested in the competition and deduct this cost from the total prize money.

  4. 4.4. The net prize money will be disbursed as follows:

    • 80% to the faculty or staff member.

    • 20% retained by the University of Dubai for institutional purposes.

2. Compliance with Prize Grantor Restrictions

This policy applies only in cases where the prize grantor has not specified a particular use for the prize money, such as the implementation of a specific project or research activity. In cases where the prize grantor imposes specific restrictions on the use of the funds, the university shall adhere to those requirements.

 

3. Transfer and Management of Prize Money

The prize money shall be first transferred directly from the grantor to UD’s designated account and not directly to the faculty or staff member. The university shall be responsible for receiving and managing the prize money on behalf of the recipient, in adherence to this policy. The university will oversee the allocation and distribution of the prize money as outlined in this policy.
