Program Planning and Development

Policy 

1. Preparing the Initial Proposal

  1. The plan for a new program is discussed and approved at the AAC meeting. 

  2. If approved, the QAIE department, the College Deans and Program Directors shall meet to discuss the preparation of the IPP.

  3. The QAIE shall provide the College Dean and Program Director with the IPP template that must contain, among other information, the following:

    • Program rationale;

    • Program goals and learning outcomes;

    • Proper alignment of the program goals with the UD Mission and the UAE National Goals.

  4. If required, QAIE shall conduct “initial benchmarking” to determine the national institutions that offer the same program, or close.

  5. The complete IPP shall be submitted by the Program Director to the QAIE for review.

  6. The final IPP, after the QAIE review, will be presented at the AAC meeting for discussion and approval.

  7. After the approval of the AAC, the final IPP shall be submitted by the QAIE to the President and BOT for approval.

2. Preparation of the Program Proposal for Initial Accreditation by the CAA

  1. After the approval of the BOT, the Dean, Program Director and  QAIE shall work together to prepare the documentation for the Initial Program Accreditation, according to the procedures described in the QA Code of Practice for Initial Program Accreditation.

  2. When developing the program goals, learning outcomes, and curriculum, the Program Director is requested to include feedback from the CAB and potential employers, and involve the faculty in the development.

  3. The final draft of the program specification document and the curriculum must be reviewed and approved by the College Curriculum Committee. 

3. Submission of the IPP

  1. Once QAIE receives the approval from the College Curriculum Committee of the IPP they will perform one last check and obtain President or VPAA approval to submit to CAA.

  2. After approval, QAIE will submit on the CAA online portal.
