Sustainable Climate Action Policy

Policy

UD is dedicated to being a leader in sustainability and taking decisive action to address climate change. By setting ambitious goals and engaging the university community, we aim to create a sustainable and resilient campus that contributes positively to global efforts to combat climate change.

1. Objectives

  1. Continue to ensure the university's carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions has carbon neutrality or net-zero emissions.

  2. Maintain professional recognitions such as LEED Platinum and LEED Zero.  

  3. Promote sustainable practices and resource efficiency in university activities.

  4. Integrate sustainability and climate considerations into academic programs and research initiatives.

  5. Engage and educate the university community to foster a culture of environmental responsibility and sustainable behavior.

  6. Collaborate with external partners to advance regional and global sustainability efforts.

 

2. Guidelines

  1. Develop a plan to maintain carbon neutrality or net-zero emissions. 

  2. Continue our green building standards and sustainable practices in construction, renovation, and daily operations. Prioritize energy-efficient technologies, water conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable procurement.

  3. Continually integrate sustainability and climate-related topics into academic programs and research activities. Foster interdisciplinary collaboration on sustainability challenges and solutions.

  4. Engage students, faculty, staff, and alumni in sustainability initiatives through awareness campaigns, workshops, events, and volunteer opportunities.

  5. Promote our waste reduction and recycling programs on campus. 

  6. Preserve and enhance biodiversity on campus by protecting green spaces, promoting native plantings, and implementing wildlife-friendly practices.

 

3. Monitoring and Reporting

  1. Track progress toward sustainability and climate action goals. Regularly report on key performance indicators, including carbon emissions, energy usage, waste diversion rates, and other relevant metrics.

  2. Maintain our LEED Zero and LEED Platinum awards and continue to add other industry standard recognitions/certificates.

  3. Conduct periodic sustainability assessments to identify areas for improvement and set new targets based on best practices and emerging technologies.

4. Education and Awareness

  • Promote sustainability education and awareness among the university community through workshops, seminars, sustainability research and competitions, and educational materials.
