Student Competition Policy

Policy:

  1. Eligibility:

    • All currently enrolled students at the University of Dubai are eligible to participate in competitions.

    • Students must be in good academic standing and have no disciplinary actions pending.

    • In case of limited competition slots, priority will be given to students or teams with a high GPA (typically 3.0 and above) and relevant experience or qualifications related to the competition.

  2. Supervision:

    • Any team representing the University of Dubai or requesting support (financial, logistical, or otherwise) must have a designated faculty and/or staff supervisor assigned.

    • The supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the project aligns with the competition guidelines and the university’s standards. Moreover, providing advice, offering feedback, monitoring progress, and helping ensure the project stays aligned with competition requirements and aims for the first place.

    • The supervisor will also handle logistical matters, assist with coordination between the team and competition organizers, and provide general support throughout the competition process.

    • The team may have multiple supervisors if needed to provide additional support and guidance throughout the competition

  3. Funding and Resources:

    • UD will provide funding and resources as deemed necessary and appropriate for the competition.

    • A detailed budget must be submitted along with the application, outlining all anticipated expenses. The DSS or the concerned college submit the budget (PRF) where it takes the normal approval process. 

  4. Share Distribution:

  5. The share distribution for any prizes or awards won in competitions with a total value exceeding AED 5,000 will be as follows

    • Students: 60%

    • University of Dubai: 20%

    • Supervisor:  20%

  6. For prizes equal to or below AED 5,000, the full amount will be awarded to the participating student(s). However, the University of Dubai reserves the right to claim 20% of the total prize if deemed appropriate, based on the level of institutional support provided.

  7. Cash prizes will be disbursed via bank transfer within 30 days of the award being granted.


5. Responsibilities:

  • Students: Ensure full participation, meet all deadlines, and adhere to the guidelines provided by the competition and the university. If applicable, submit required waivers for off-campus or sports competitions prior to participation.

  • Students with a GPA below 2.0 will not be excused from classes to participate in competitions.

  • Supervisor: Provide continuous support, ensure the project meets competition standards, and facilitate the team’s efforts.

  •  University: DSS and the college provide necessary funding, resources, and administrative support to the participating teams.

 Feedback:

  • A feedback session will be conducted between the team and supervisor to assess the overall experience and identify areas for improvement.

  • If students believe that the supervisor did not provide adequate support or contribution, they are encouraged to share this during the feedback session for review and possible action. 

  • Suppose the feedback reveals major misconduct or serious non-compliance with university or competition guidelines. In that case, appropriate sanctions may be applied, including warnings, suspension from future competitions, or other disciplinary measures as deemed necessary.

  • Teams that demonstrate strong performance and potential will be referred to the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation for continued development and support.
