EERS 600 Modern Radar Systems

This course covers a broad spectrum of the radar system design and analysis. Radar fundamentals such as types of radar, radar equation and radar cross section are first presented. The radar waveform spectra, transmitter and receiver characteristics, and the detection of radar signals in the presence of noise are also covered. Signal processing techniques to mitigate the negative effects of radar clutter are described including moving target indicator (MTI) and Doppler processing techniques. The course discusses applications of radar systems such as the use of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) in environmental studies. Radar technology evolution from defense applications to civilian applications is emphasized at the end of the course.
