EEDC 500 Advanced Digital Communications
The course covers the analysis and design of modern digital communication systems. It starts with a revision of Fourier analysis, probability, and signals and systems theory. Digital communication fundamentals including source coding, channel capacity, single carrier/multi-carrier modulation, coherent/non-coherent detection and demodulation techniques are covered in depth. Synchronization, channel estimation and equalization techniques are also discussed. The performance of digital communication systems over additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and multipath fading channels are studied. A major component of the course is error control coding where linear block codes, convolutional codes and capacity approaching codes are discussed.
